The first visit to any market on our shortlist is roughly the same six-step flow. Get it right once, apply it everywhere. The whole thing takes about six minutes if you are paying attention.
Download from the official Tor Project site. Verify the signature if you can. Do not install browser extensions, they break Tor's anonymity model and they are not necessary.
New Tor Browser session, no bookmarks pasted from forums, no autofill. Set the security slider to "Safer". Most markets on the shortlist work cleanly without JavaScript.
Open the market detail page on this site, copy the canonical v3 onion. Or pull it from a PGP-signed mirror announcement on Dread, which is what we did to put it on this site in the first place.
Do not copy from search results, do not click links in chat groups, do not paste from email. Type it. The minute you spend typing is the minute you do not spend on a phishing clone.
Once the market loads, compare the onion you typed against the address the market itself prints on its landing page or in the captcha image. They must match. If they do not, close the tab.
During signup, save your PGP key, your recovery mnemonic, and turn 2FA on before you fund anything. Most markets cannot reset an account without those, and you do not want to learn that the hard way.
